Bank of America (BOA) has an awesome perk for their cardholders, but it seems no one really knows about it. It’s the Bank of America Free Museum On US program.
BOA gives free access to over 200 museums every month on the first weekend — Saturday and Sunday. That’s 24 days a year you get free access to museums!
What Is Bank Of America’s Museum On Us Program?
21 years ago (!) Bank of America started supporting museums by allowing their customers free access to museums at least once a month.
There are no restrictions on how long you stay, or even if you go to the same museum each time. All you need to do is go on the first weekend of each month and show your Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, or US Trust Card and photo ID. You’ll get normal looking tickets, so no one will know you got in via a promo or anything.
Your ticket excludes:
- special exhibitions
- ticketed shows
- and fundraising events
There are no guest passes, so if you’re a family, consider getting your family members authorized user cards. If you have kids and they can’t get cards, a lot of museums have free admission for kids!
How Does Bank Of America Free Museum On Us Work?
It’s actually pretty simple. All you need to do is show up to a participating center and show your BOA card and photo ID.
They’ll issue you a normal ticket and you can spend the whole day in there.
Note that children will need their own ticket and you can’t issue them a credit or debit card since they’re too young. Check the museum rates to see if children are free (they usually are).

What Kind Of Places Participate In Museum On Us?
How much the Bank of America Free Museum On Us perk is worth is a tough question though. It really depends on where you live. For example, look at the New York City participating locations:
- American Museum of Natural History
- Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum
- Museum of Arts and Design
- Museum of the City of New York
- Queens Museum
- Staten Island Zoological Society
- The Jewish Museum
- The Metropolitan Museum of Art – The Met Breuer
- Metropolitan Museum of Art – The Met Cloisters
- The Metropolitan Museum of Art – The Met Fifth Avenue
- The New York Botanical Garden (June through October only)
That list is quite extensive and is definitely a nice perk for getting some culture and knowledge.
We’re excited to have found out about it since we’ve always wanted to go to the Intrepid ($19 for NYC residents, $33 if not), the Museum of Natural History ($23) for a while, and the Botanic Garden ($23). We do visit the Met a couple of times per year, but since we’re NYC residents we can pay what we want for the Met.
If you’re just visiting NYC though, the Met is $25, so this should save you a pretty penny!
The Miami area has about 10 museums, Charlotte has 5, Pennsylvania has 5, and Seattle, Austin, San Antonio have 4 each. The other 180 or so are located in cities across the country, Check out your city here.

Bank Of America Free Museum On Us Past Benefits
In 2017, you could get your entire family into the museum for free if you were Platinum Honors level. In 2018, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. It’s surprising given how much one has to hold $100,000 with Bank Of America to get that status.
So, have you guys used this program before to get into museums for free? What other ways have you gotten into museums for free?
