Harris Poll is a large survey company for political research that pays you for your opinion. It’s not for everyone, but they do have a sub-company that offers $150 for installing their software ($50 per device). Check out the Nielsen company here.

What Is The Harris Poll?

Harris Poll is a company that offers surveys for free. They’re under the umbrella group of Nielsen. They take these survey results and

Harris Poll is a member of the National Council of Public Polls (NCPP), the Council of American Survey Research Organizations (CASRO),the Council for Marketing and Opinion Research (CMOR).

They started off in 1963 and their headquarters are in Rochester, NY.

Harris Poll is currently rated an A- from the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

How Do I Join Harris Poll?

Harris Poll accepts people from the US and Canada, with a minimum age of 13. There used to be a larger group of countries that could join, but in the past few years, they’ve started to restrict membership to just the US and Canada.

If you’re from the US, go here to sign up.

They also offer two portals for Canada. If you speak French go here, and if you speak English go here instead.

You might not want to sign up until you read the entire review though.

Once you sign up, you’ll be given a password instead of opting in to choose your own. I imagine this is for security reasons because some people pick simple passwords.

If you don’t wish to participate anymore, you can always request to opt out.

I always recommend using a separate email address when you sign up for surveys so that you can keep your survey life separate from your personal life. You can simply add the word survey to your already existing gmail user name and create a new account. If a survey site is using 2 Factor Authentication, you can always create a free phone number from Google Voice and give them that number.

How Is The Harris Poll User Interface?

Generally there are 3 grades of survey sites: Excellent, Okayish, and Terrible. There are only two sites I would rate excellent: SwagBucks and Survey Junkie.

Harris Poll’s Interface is Okayish. It’s worth noting that the images they use seem not to be high-quality, almost as if this website has never been updated in the past decade.

Harris Poll has a sub-program called ShopTracker that pays you $36 a year if you use Amazon Prime. You get $3 just for signing up. Check out our review of it here.

How Do The Surveys Pay?

If you don’t qualify for a survey, they pay 15 HitPoints and still get entered into the HitStakes drawl.

The annoying thing about Harris Poll is that they don’t tell you how many points you can earn with each survey, so you don’t get to optimize your survey taking. With SwagBucks and Survey Junkie, you can calculate the hourly rate a survey will give you in order to only do the high paying surveys.

Generally surveys pay 75-150 HitPoints, but just because you get sent an email invite doesn’t mean you’re qualified for the survey. If you’re looking for pre-qualified surveys, check out Pinecone Research, where they send surveys that are $3 each and take 10-15 minutes of your time.

What Kind Of Surveys Are They?

You’ll also be able to join focus groups, telephone surveys, and sometimes even mail offerings.

Focus Groups

Focus groups involve you going in-person to a center, answering questions, and discussing the topic at hand for an extended amount of time. These tend to be longer commitments and pay significantly better. You’ll be there with other members of Harris Poll. Sometimes you’ll be discussing a specific product and have to see it in person because it hasn’t been released yet.

In general, payment is given directly at the end of the focus group, so you won’t have to wait for your reward.

Telephone Surveys

Telephone surveys are ones in which someone calls you and asks questions and engages in discussion with you, usually about political topics or consumer products. They do this because its easier to get opinions where you’re not simply ticking a box. Instead, speaking out loud allows you to give a better picture of your opinion.

Surveys are between 5 to 30 minutes. Easy-going topics are in shopping, movies, consumer products, etc, while they do have surveys running the gamut from politics to religion.

Harris Poll has an app version, so that you can be notified of new surveys as they come out.

HitPoints should be credited within 10 minutes of you doing the survey, but sometimes it takes as long as 24 hours.

We get sent around 3-5 surveys on average, which seems to be the norm from what we’ve seen online with other users as well.

How Does Harris Poll Pay?

Harris Poll pays via gift cards. They don’t offer cash via Paypal or check like other survey companies do. Examples of good survey companies that offer cash payments immediately are: SwagBucks (sign up bonus). Survey Junkie, and Pinecone Research.

The Harris Poll currency is called HitPoints. Once you reach 1250 HitPoints, you’ll get $10 in a gift card of your choice. Harris Poll offers gift cards with:

  • Amazon
  • ESPN
  • Home Depot
  • iTunes
  • Magazines
  • Starbucks
  • Walmart

They also have redemptions from HitPoints available for merchandise as well or you can donate your points to charities.

Harris Poll requires you to verify your identity before sending you your gift card. They do this in order to ensure that each account only has 1 person attached to it. Some people, for example, might open a few accounts and start filling out surveys. They want to ensure that this doesn’t happen by verifying your identity.

They also have a sweepstakes for $4,500 every quarter and $500 every biweekly period. You earn an entry if you are not qualified for a survey or if you complete a super short survey without an award.

It takes 15 business days for them to process your rewards. That’s a ton of time compared to SwagBucks and Survey Junkie which pay out immediately, and Pinecone Research, which pays out the next business day.

If you’ve redeemed for merchandise, it takes 7-14 days to get your merchandise via USPS. Shipping and handling is handled by Harris Poll.

Overall Verdict For Harris Poll

Honestly, I would pass on Harris Poll unless you’re willing to get 3-5 surveys a month. It’ll probably take you 2-3 months to get the 1250 HitPoints minimum, which translates to $10. You’re probably going to get screened out a few times too, so it might take you even longer.

I don’t recommend joining, as I feel there are better survey sites if you want to make money faster. The only people I would think this site would be good for are people who like to sign up for every single survey site out there or teenagers without a way to get a job and make money (where I grew up people didn’t hire teens until they were at least 16 and Harris Poll has a 13+ survey taking limit).

I would recommend these below if you want to make money with surveys. We’ve personally tested them out.
