What Is The Receipt Hog App?
Receipt Hog’s parent company, InfoScout, was created in 2011 to capture real-time analytics for retailers.
Basically, Receipt Hog works by giving you coins for receipts you scan through the app. You can redeem gift cards and play games to win more coins with your coins as well. Receipt Hog currently only works in the US and UK.
There are a ton of grocery store cashback apps, but Receipt Hog offers some unique spins and games in the app. The best grocery cashback apps in our opinion are Ibotta, Checkout 51, and Fetch Rewards.
How Does The Receipt Hog App Work?
Step 1: Sign Up With The Receipt Hog App
Download the app through the Apple or Google Play store, then sign up with either your email or Facebook account. Receipt Hog has 53,900 reviews with a 4.7 rating on the Ios app store and a 4.5 rating with 88,000 reviews on the Google Play store.
Step 2: Upload Receipts To The App
Once you sign up, you can start to upload your receipts to the app and get coins to exchange for rewards.
Step 3: Earn Coins Other Ways
There are three ways to earn coins with the Receipt Hog app. First, you should complete the survey for 30 bonus coins. If you signed up with an email, you should get 100 coins for that.
There’s a third way to earn coins, but it sounds like a lot of work for an extra 40 coins. Someone in your household will have to have signed up for Receipt Hog already and submitted 20 receipts. You’ll then have to email Receipt Hog in order to claim it.
Step 4: Submit Receipts For More Coins
When you submit a receipt, make sure the following are visible:
- Store Name
- Items Bought
- Total Amount
- Date of Purchase
Step 5: Redeem Rewards
The redemption rate for Receipt Hog isn’t good at all. Points expire 3 months of inactivity.
Here are the coin rewards:
- Spending $10 gives you 5 coins
- If you spend $10-$50 you get 10 coins
- Spending $50-$100 gives you 15 coins
- Spending $100+ gives you 20 coins
Here is how many coins you need to redeem a reward:
- 1,000 for $5 (minimum to cash out, means 200 coins per $1)
- 1,800 for $10 (180 coins per $1)
- 3,200 for $20 (160 coins per $1)
- 4,500 for $30 (150 coins per $1)
Note that you’re limited to 100 coins per week. After you reach this limit, you’ll only get 5 coins per receipt you submit. You can upload up to 20 receipts per week and up to three receipts from the same store per day.
Let’s assume you’re buying groceries in exactly $100 increments. If you’re an average family spending $500 on groceries per month, that means you’ll get 100 coins per month. Going by this breakdown, it’ll take you an entire year to get just $10 from the Receipt Hog app. That’s way less than other grocery cash back apps.

How Do You Get Paid With The Receipt Hog App?
Receipt Hog pays in Amazon and PayPal gift cards. You’ll get your gift card or PayPal deposit within 7 days of your request.
This is pretty great, because most people prefer cash or Amazon gift cards anyway.
Receipt Hog Referral Program
Unlike most cash back or money making apps, Receipt Hog doesn’t have a referral program or even a sign-up bonus. There are plenty of other sites that offer free money though.
How Does Receipt Hog Make Money? What Are They Doing With Your Data?
Receipt Hog makes money by collecting data on your receipts. Their parent company is called Infosource. They take the data they get from your receipts and resell that information to retailers.
You can also link up Receipt Hog to read your emails for receipts in order to get more coins. If you want to do this, I’d recommend creating a new email just for purchases. It’s a minimal number of coins anyway, so you should strongly consider whether you want to give up your privacy for that. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Receipt Hog Pros And Cons
Receipt Hog Pros
The Receipt Hog app accepts most receipts so that’s a plus, but the payout is so low that it might not be worth it. It might be fun to spin for Hog rewards.
Receipt Hog Cons
Receipt Hog is easy to use, but it definitely pays pennies compared to other grocery cash back apps.
It also doesn’t offer a signup bonus, which is what most other grocery apps offer.
Overall, I think the cons are way more than the pros. I wouldn’t recommend this app. You should take a look at the other cashback apps.
