Since college I’ve been experimenting with money making apps and survey sites to make some extra cash. The best sites and apps have definitely changed over the years and so I’ve spent a while testing ones that still work. I’ve learned a lot, and here are some tips before you get started.
Tips Before Starting With Surveys & Money Making Apps
- If you find other survey sites not on this list, Google it to see if others have had a good experience – check the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and TrustPilot. Though we checked out A LOT of sites. If it’s not listed, odds are we did not have a great experience.
- NEVER pay money for access to a survey site. The good ones are all free to sign up.
- Before you start signing up, make a separate email because you might get a lot of offers. Just add “surveys” to the end of your existing email and make a new account. You want to separate your survey/side hustle email from your personal one!
- Each survey site is looking for different demographics (age, gender, geographic location) so you should sign up for as many as you can and unsubscribe from the sites that don’t cater to your demographics.
- Don’t expect to quit your day job just by doing surveys! You can earn a few hundred dollars each month if you work at it, but not a full-time income.
While some sites list 20+ surveys, we recommend less than 8 here. After testing out a ton, we realized the majority are spammy and junk. The others are money making apps that don’t require you to fill out forms at all.

Pinecone Research is awesome because you get paid $3 per survey, with surveys taking between 15 minutes. No longer do you need to guess how much each survey is worth or will take. They pay out in cash or Paypal.
This is one of the highest rated survey sites out there . When I used it, it was easy to see why. There’s no BS with surveys that get filled up before you’re finished (like other crappy sites!) and they send you emails with targeted surveys a few times a day. You even get paid for surveys about your basic data so they can tailor your surveys for your demographics so you make more money! They also pre-fill out surveys with questions you’ve already answered. Payouts are via Paypal in dollars or you can redeem for gift cards.
SwagBucks is one of the most well-known cashback and survey sites. They offer a $5 bonus when you sign up and $10 when you do your first cashback bonus. This company does political and social market research for some of the biggest names in the news world and is a publicly traded company on the Paris stock exchange. Reuters partners with them and they’ve conducted surveys for NPR and more. In fact you can see all their poll outcomes on their “News & Polls” page if you want to take a look.
This site asks you for your opinion on music, commercials, and advertisements. The questionnaires are pretty easy, but you should only do the ones that have bonus or increased payouts to maximize your time. As a first time reviewer, you’ll have to write better reviews in order to get higher payouts — they rank their reviewers from 1 to 5 star. Click here to review music and commercials.
Epoll is nice in that it sends you emails to surveys without you having to go into the website and check every day. It also allows pays you to watch television by sending you surveys about shows at times. They have an A+ rating with the BBB.
Answer surveys that affect the news cycle. Your answers are aggregated and represented in popular media — so be a part of change! There’s a ton of surveys and chances to earn gift cards. They have several different segments of surveys, so you won’t get as many of those surveys where you get screened out after a bunch of questions (so annoying!).
The famous ratings company offers passive income for you if you install their app. They offer a monthly $10,000 sweepstakes if you install the app on your computer. You can also install the app onto your phones and tablet for a fixed $ every month ($5 for each device). So you can earn $120 a year just by installing their app, which is pretty great for some passive income.
Get $180 a year just for installing SurveyConnect. They pay $5 a month on every device you install SavvyConnect on, which is $60/year per device. Install it on all 3 and get $180 a year.
Google pays up to $3/week, or $1 for each kind of device you have synced (phone, tablet, and PC) per week. Cross Media is now owned by Google and since you’re probably giving them free data anyway, why not at least get paid for it? $3/week is $156 per year. I haven’t been able to join yet as it says they’re full, but I check back once in a while.
$10 Bonus – Ebates: Get Cash Back For Shopping
Ebates is one of the best known cashback sites. You do your normal online shopping, but you just click through to your shopping site through Ebates and they give you up to 10 percent cash back in cash! They even give you a $10 bonus on your first purchase through the site.
$3 Bonus – ShopTracker
Get a $3 visa giftcard for just signing up with ShopTracker, and then $36 a year for staying with them. The only requirements are to have an Amazon account and connect it. They don’t take any personal information, and my Amazon buying history is pretty mundane anyway.
A little wary of linking your account? ShopTracker is owned by Neilsen. You know, that company with a $11 Billion market cap that does the ratings for all the TV shows? $40 in free money a year? Sign me up!
$10 Bonus – Ibotta
If you buy groceries, you’ll get $10 for the first grocery receipt you scan through the app. If nothing else, it’s a quick way to make $10 the next time you go grocery shopping.
